Larry Fitzgerald spent seventeen seasons catching passes for a franchise that had spent most of its existence looking for a home.
The franchise began in 1898 on the South Side of Chicago as the Morgan Athletic Club, which makes it the oldest continuously run professional football operation in the country. It played under half a dozen names and in three different cities — Chicago, then St. Louis from 1960, then the Phoenix area from 1988 — before settling as the Arizona Cardinals in 1994. The Bidwill family has owned it since Charles Bidwill bought the club in 1932; his descendants still run it today.
Both of its NFL Championships came before the move west, in 1925 and 1947, the second earned by beating the Philadelphia Eagles.
Since 2006 the team has played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, seating 63,400 and expandable beyond 72,000, a considerable upgrade on the college ground it borrowed in Tempe during its first years in the state. Within the NFC West, the rivalry with the Los Angeles Rams carries the longest history of any Cardinals matchup, stretching back to when both clubs sat in entirely different divisions and time zones.
