About the player
Portland picked Gage Guerra 69th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft and let him walk back to college. Two years later, he was signed on a short-term deal to cover a match against Seattle Sounders and the club's US Open Cup run.
Guerra grew up in Houston and came through the Dynamo academy from 2017 to 2020, playing his school football at Kingwood Park, where he was named Greater Houston Player of the Year and made All-State. He stayed in college rather than turn professional straight away.
He joined the Timbers system in 2025, starting with the reserve side, Portland Timbers 2, in MLS Next Pro. The numbers there were hard to ignore — 12 appearances, 7 goals, 4 assists — and the step up followed quickly. By late June, Portland had seen enough: Guerra signed a full one-year contract with the first team, carrying club options through 2026, 2027 and 2028. The 2026 option was picked up that November.
His first MLS regular-season goal came on 14 March 2026, fittingly against Houston Dynamo. He now wears the number 88 shirt, and this season's shot data shows him scoring off both feet rather than favouring one side.
