Daegu FC

The football club that carries the name of Daegu belongs to the city in a literal sense: Daegu FC was set up as a community club, which in Korea means it issues shares, that the city government is a key shareholder, and that whoever is mayor of Daegu also chairs the club. It played its first K League season in 2003.

It moved into a 12,419-seat ground in 2019 now known as Daegu iM Bank Park — a name it has carried only since 2025, after six years as DGB Daegu Bank Park, and one it swaps for Daegu Forest Arena in AFC competition.

Daegu adopted the sky-blue kit as its main identity in the second half of 2012, tying itself to the clear skies the city is known for, and the nickname followed — Sky Blues .

The trophy that mattered came in 2018. Daegu beat Ulsan Hyundai 5-1 over two legs in the Korean FA Cup final, losing nothing at home after taking a 2-1 lead on the road and then winning 3-0 in the return. Before that there had been a semi-final in 2008, a run of quarter-finals, and an invitational tournament in Tongyeong in 2006.
