Den Helder Suns Women

Sixteen national titles is not a run any Dutch women's club has matched, and the first of them, in 1985, came only two years after the team existed as its own entity. Before that it had played as the women's section of BV Noordkop, until the ambitions of the players outgrew that arrangement and they broke away to form BV Den Helder in 1983. The championships kept coming in waves rather than a single streak: three in a row at the turn of the 1990s, another cluster either side of the millennium, then a gap of more than a decade before the club reclaimed the title in 2021 and again in 2022.

The cup record sits alongside it, eight wins in the NBB-Beker stretching from 1992 to 2023, though the club has also lost seven Final Fours, a reminder that domination in the league did not always carry over to the knockout format.

The rebrand to Den Helder Suns in the 2021–22 season brought the women's team under the same name as the city's professional men's side, even though the two remain separately run organisations. It arrived, fittingly, in the same season the club won its first league title in thirteen years.

Home games are played in front of a capacity of 1,000 at Sporthal Sportlaan, modest surroundings for a team that competes at the top of the Women's Basketball League. Blue, black, white and gold have stayed the club's colours through the name change, a thread of continuity back to the days when a group of women in Den Helder decided BV Noordkop could no longer contain what they wanted to do.
