«The Birds»
Dallas comes first. The Eagles' main rival is the Cowboys, and the New York Giants come right behind.
The first stretch of success came under Greasy Neale, whose teams won NFL Championships in 1948 and 1949. Buck Shaw added a third in 1960. Then came a long gap. The Eagles reached Super Bowl XV and lost to the Raiders, and lost again to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. The players from those years, among them Reggie White and Brian Dawkins, are in the Hall of Fame without a Super Bowl ring.
The ring came in 2018. In Super Bowl LII the Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41–33 under Doug Pederson, and Nick Foles was named MVP. Five years later they lost Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2025, under Nick Sirianni, they met the Chiefs again and won Super Bowl LIX 40–22, with Jalen Hurts taking the MVP award.
The Eagles have also spent a season as half of another team. In 1943, with the Second World War draining rosters, they merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The combined side was officially the Phil-Pitt Combine and was known as the "Steagles".
Before Lincoln Financial Field, "The Linc", the team played in Baker Bowl, Shibe Park, Franklin Field and, from 1971 to 2002, Veterans Stadium. None of that was in Bert Bell's and Lud Wray's plans on 8 July 1933. They had simply taken over the place left by the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Eagles treat themselves as a separate franchise, and neither the records nor the titles of the Yellow Jackets came with them.
