For the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that has called this place home since its opening in 2003, the hybrid Desso Grassmaster surface is a key part of its identity. It is one of only two National Football League stadiums to use this configuration, combining natural grass with artificial reinforcement. The pitch itself is kept viable through a hydronic heating system, with pipes running beneath the turf to maintain root temperature during the post-season. This technical detail matters because it allows the field to withstand the rigours of both American football and occasional international soccer matches, like the Liverpool versus Arsenal game that drew nearly 70,000 spectators. The stadium also hosts the Temple Owls and will feature six matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for which it is temporarily known as Philadelphia Stadium.
