The club traces back to 1909, when it was founded as Erzsébetfalvai Munkás Testedző Kör. A 1973 merger with another local side produced the present-day Erzsébeti Spartacus MTK.
ESMTK plays in the NB III, Hungary's third tier, and has never troubled the record books at the top of the game. In 2023–24 the club reached the round of 16 after beating Videoton, an NB I side, 1-0 in the third round, before MTK Budapest ended the run. Third place in the NB III Southeast group in 2022–23 stands as the club's best league finish of recent seasons.
