«Falcons»
Forty seasons in, two Super Bowl appearances still tell most of the story, and neither ended the way the franchise wanted. The Falcons lost Super Bowl XXXIII to the Denver Broncos, 34–19, closing out the 1998 season, then returned eighteen years later only to blow a 28–3 lead against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
Atlanta entered the NFL as an expansion side in 1966, bought by Rankin M. Smith Sr. for $8.5 million. Arthur Blank, who co-founded Home Depot, took over ownership in 2002 and eventually moved the club out of the Georgia Dome and into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017.
The nickname 'Dirty Birds' outlived the player who inspired it, Jamal Anderson.
