Fortuna Köln U19

Nobody signs up for the youth team by itself. Every player wearing the black and yellow of SC Fortuna Köln's U19 side came up through the Jugendabteilung, a department that now carries more than 500 players and ranks among the largest in Germany. The Nachwuchsliga schedule keeps them in Liga B, Group F, alongside a run in the DFB Junioren Pokal, and no national youth title has come out of that yet.

The senior badge above them gives the shirts their colours: red and white by the club constitution, though everyone still calls the team Die Schwarz-Gelben for the black and yellow they actually wear on the pitch.

SC Fortuna Köln itself came together on 21 February 1948, when three Cologne clubs — Victoria Köln 1911, Bayenthaler SV 1920 and Sparkassen-Verein Köln 1927 — merged into one. The youth section grew inside that structure rather than starting on its own. Younes Derbali, Finn Bauens, Nico Ochojski and Mark Depta all made that step up from the academy into the first team. Hans Sarpei took a different route back: he played for the senior side in 1999–2000 and now works with the younger squads passing through.

Matches against 1. FC Köln carry the weight of the Kölner Derby, and Viktoria Köln supplies the other side of the city rivalry. Training and matchdays run through the Südstadion in Zollstock, the club's home since 1978, its 11,748 seats a fixture of the city's southern district.
