Freiburg U19

Freiburg 's under-19s let Borussia Dortmund pull back to 2-2 in the 2009 final of the DFB-Pokal der Junioren, then won it on penalties anyway. It was the second of six youth cup titles the side collected between 2006 and 2018, a run no other academy in Germany has matched, and it came with a squad that kept producing players who mattered well beyond that one competition.

Christian Günter captained the team to the 2012 final win over Hertha BSC and simply stayed at Freiburg afterwards. Nico Schlotterbeck was part of the 2018 title side before moving up to the first team and on to Borussia Dortmund and the German national set-up. Noah Darvich went the other way out of the same age group, leaving for Barcelona rather than staying local.

The under-19s play at the Breisgau-Arena in Freiburg's Wolfswinkel district. Julian Wiedensohler took over the side at the start of 2025 after Bernhard Weis moved up to coach the reserves.

The 2024 final broke the pattern: Freiburg lost it to Hoffenheim, 3-2 after extra time.
