Emery Bayisenge's recall to the national team came while he was playing for Gasogi United. The team plays its football several kilometres away, at the Kigali Pelé Stadium, also known as Nyamirambo Regional Stadium, which holds 22,000 in orange and black, the colours the club has worn since its owner, the businessman and journalist Charles Kakooza Nkuriza, known in Kigali football circles as KNC, put the side together.

Promotion came in the 2018–19 season, when Gasogi United won the Rwandan Second Division. A run to the semi-finals of the Peace Cup is as close as the club has come to a major trophy since, with the Premier League title and the Rwandan Cup both still out of reach.

The tension between KNC and the Rwandan Football Federation over refereeing decisions and allegations of corruption came to a head in January 2024, when the owner announced he was disbanding the team on the spot. Gasogi United took the field again for the 2024–25 season, still based in Ndera.
