«Big Blue»
No opponent has occupied the Giants longer than the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, both dating to the club's early decades in the NFL Eastern Division.
Tim Mara and Will Gibson put the franchise together on 1 August 1925 after buying an NFL licence. Before settling in New Jersey it moved through the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium and the original Giants Stadium.
Steve Owen coached the team to four championships across more than two decades in charge, but the season the club still measures itself against is 2007, when a wild-card side beat an unbeaten 16–0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and David Tyree's helmet catch. Bill Parcells had already delivered two Super Bowls in the 1980s and built the defensive unit fans called the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, with Lawrence Taylor at its centre; Tom Coughlin later added two more titles, in 2007 and again in 2011. Since that second Coughlin championship the division titles have stopped coming, and as of 2025 the Giants are carrying the longest active drought of any club in the NFC East.
Home games are played in front of 82,500 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, a ground shared with the Jets and named for a sponsor rather than for anything the Giants themselves built.
