«Golden Wolves»
Reading, Pennsylvania, is not a city built around college football, and the ground behind the Golden Wolves' name makes that plain: Alvernia University Stadium holds a thousand people. The program is younger than most of its opponents' storied rivalries — it took the field for the first time in 2018, six decades after the university itself was founded by the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, and long after its other teams had already settled on the nickname Crusaders.
Ralph Clark took the program through its first four seasons. Steve Azzanesi followed from 2022 to 2025, and the job now passes to Steve Devlin.
Individual moments have stood out against the collective struggle. Darrius Sample was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week as early as 2019, when the program was barely a year old, and Marcus Reed carried that further, taking the conference's Offensive Player of the Year honour in 2025. Maroon and gold remain the university's own designation for the colours, whatever third-party listings say otherwise.
Through the 2025 season, the Golden Wolves have won eight games and lost sixty-three.
