Jaguars

The Jaguars entered the league in 1995, granted to the city on 30 November 1993.

There was a spell early on when it looked settled. Under founding coach Tom Coughlin, Jacksonville won the AFC Central in 1998 and 1999, reached two AFC Championship Games, and built a roster around Mark Brunell, Jimmy Smith and a tackle in Tony Boselli good enough to reach the Hall of Fame despite a career cut short by injury. The 1999 championship game finished as a loss to the Tennessee Titans, and that defeat still colours the fixture between the two clubs more than two decades later.

Maurice Jones-Drew carried the offence through the years that followed, and the club has since gathered division titles more than deep play-off runs — AFC South crowns in 2017, 2022 and 2025 among them — without turning any of them into a run back to a conference final. Ownership changed hands when Shahid Khan bought the team from founder Wayne Weaver in 2012, and the stadium has changed names almost as often as the roster has changed quarterbacks, opening in 1995 as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium before cycling through Alltel, EverBank Field, TIAA Bank Field and back to EverBank Stadium, now mid-renovation under the banner "Stadium of the Future."

What Jacksonville has never done is win a Super Bowl, or even reach one. Liam Coen now has the job of building that team around Lawrence, and until a run in January says otherwise, the Jaguars remain a franchise still searching for the season that matches its ambition.
