«Big Blue»
MetLife Stadium seats around 82,500 and belongs to no one club — the Giants share it with the Jets. Before that arrangement, the team moved through New York in stages: the Polo Grounds for three decades, then Yankee Stadium, a brief stopover at the Yale Bowl and Shea Stadium, and finally MetLife itself from 2010.
Tim Mara put up the money to bring the club into the NFL in 1925, working alongside Will Gibson, and the Mara family's hold on the team outlasted him. Four championships came before the Super Bowl era existed at all, in 1927, 1934, 1938 and 1956.
What followed took longer to arrive. Bill Parcells built the roster that beat the Broncos 39–20 in Super Bowl XXI and returned the Giants to the top four years later against the Bills, a one-point game settled 20–19. Two more titles came under Tom Coughlin, both against the Patriots — 17–14 after the 2007 season, then 21–17 after 2011 — each time denying New England a perfect or near-perfect run. Eli Manning quarterbacked both of those wins, and Michael Strahan anchored the defence that made the first one possible.
The nickname Big Blue traces to the dark blue that has stayed part of the kit alongside red and white since the club's earliest years, and the rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys has run for just as long a stretch of the schedule.
Eight NFL championships sit on the club's record, four of them won since the Super Bowl era began.
