The founding date, 7 December 1950, sits at the start of that chain of renamings rather than at the head of any grand plan.
What the club has to show for those decades is a single Challenge de France, a national cup won at some point in its history. It has been enough to give the women's side, known locally as Les Yonnaises, a place in French handball's memory even as it has spent most of its recent seasons working through the lower divisions rather than at the top of them.
Camille Rassinoux came up through that system and wore the shirt until 2009 before going on to play for France.
It is a modest step for a club whose home ground holds barely 1,000 spectators, but for a side still known to its own supporters by the initials of a name it dropped in 1987, HBCY, every step back up matters.
