Metalul Buzău

The union at IUT Buzău put its name behind a works team in 1954, when a chunk of the squad broke away to form Gloria Buzău. Metalul itself had to be rebuilt in 1982, merging with Steaua Săhăteni to keep going. The name changed twice more: Metalcord in 1996, after a tie-up with CORD Buzău, then back to the old AS Metalul in 2007. Revicom Oil took the club over in 2013 and it has played as AFC Metalul Buzău since.

The honours board is mostly regional and local — five Liga a IV-a Buzău titles between 1982 and 2017, a Ploiești regional championship from 1966. That changed with back-to-back Liga a III-a titles in 2022–23 and 2023–24. The second one came with a play-off for promotion to Liga II, and Metalul got there on penalties against FC Bacău before beating CSM Focșani 3–2. In the Cupa României the club has twice reached the quarter-finals in recent years, losing to Rapid București and then Dinamo București, having gone out in the last sixteen to Politehnica Iași back in 2019–20.

Patrick Benga, once of Romania's under-21 side, has stayed close to the club and now works as sporting director there. The fixture against Gloria is still called the derby of Buzoian football, and the ground holds 1,606.
