Palapye is a small mining town, and its football runs through the men who dug the coal. Morupule Wanderers share the town with Motlakase Power Dynamos, and matches between the two carry a weight no away trip elsewhere in Botswana quite matches — the pit against the power station, played out on the same dusty pitches the players grew up on. Neither club needs a trophy cabinet to explain what the fixture means locally.

Supporters call the team "Wandi-Wandi," though the name that explains the club sits on the shirt itself: "Bafana Ba Magala," the Coal Boys, yellow and black like the seams the founders once worked. For close to forty years that identity meant First Division North football and little else — steady, unglamorous, largely unnoticed outside Palapye. Morupule Coal Mine's sponsorship, signed in 2015, changed the arithmetic. Four seasons later, Wanderers came through the promotion play-offs and reached the Botswana Premier League for the first time.

They have stayed there since, finishing seventh in 2024–25 and fifth the season before, without troubling the honours list. Rahman Gumbo took charge briefly in 2022, one name among a run of coaches who have tried to turn top-flight survival into something more durable. Home games are still played at Palapye Stadium, a ground that holds barely 1,500 people — tight enough that the coal mine's plan for a new multi-purpose stadium in the town reads less as ambition than as simple necessity.

The club has no website of its own; word travels through social media and the local press instead, much as it always has in a town built around one employer and, now, one football club that grew out of its workforce.
