Picos

The pitch at the Estádio Municipal Helvídio Nunes de Barros, known locally as the Gigantão da Malva, sits at 5,400 capacity in Picos, but in 2024 the surface was ruled unfit to play on, and the club had to shift its home fixtures to Oeiras, training instead on a mini-pitch while the infrastructure problems were sorted out.

A group of friends in the city put the club together on 8 February 1976, wanting Picos represented in state competitions, and the shirt has stayed yellow with green trim since, with a white green-and-yellow away kit alongside it. Known as Zangão do Piauí, the club built its name on the state championship rather than anything won outside it: four Campeonato Piauiense titles, in 1991, 1994, 1997 and 1998. The first of those, in 1991, mattered beyond the trophy itself — no club from the interior of the state had won the championship before, and Picos broke that run. Natinho scored the goal that settled the final.

Money has not always followed the results. In 2016 the club went through a crisis severe enough that players were given small vouchers to live on and ate cold rice before matches, and relegation from the top flight has caught up with Picos repeatedly since — 2003, 2013, 2017, and again in 2024.

Picos marked fifty years in 2026, half a century built largely around meetings with Clube 4 de Julho, from nearby Piripiri. Their games carry their own name, the Clássico do Interior.
