The most recent test came in 2024, when a run to the quarter-finals stopped there, beaten 5-2 by Portugal.

The age group as it now exists dates to 1993, when UEFA reshaped its youth football from an Under-16 to an Under-17 format. Poland's transition squad, coached by Andrzej Zamilski, had already won the last Under-16 European Championship that year and carried that form into the first FIFA Under-17 World Championship under the new banner, held in Japan, where they finished fourth — still the country's best showing at that level.

Since then the tournament has been a story of quarter-finals reached and semi-finals lost. In 2012 the team went out to Spain on penalties after a 1-1 draw; in 2023, a golden generation for Polish youth football, they fell to Germany by a single goal at the same stage. Group-stage exits followed in other years, so the two semi-final runs stand out as the ceiling this side has found so far.

What the tournament sides have done since is more telling than any badge. Kacper Kozłowski moved through the age groups quickly enough to be capped by Brighton and Vitesse before his twentieth birthday and now plays in Turkey with Gaziantep FK.

There is no single ground to call their own — qualifiers are scattered across Polish and European venues as the draw dictates — but preparation runs through Otwock, outside Warsaw, where the Polish Football Association keeps its national training centre for the age groups coming up behind the senior side.
