River Hawks

The 2024 national semifinal ended 66-0 to North Central, the eventual champion. Susquehanna had reached that game by winning 12 of its 14 matches, and the score was the widest of the season, but the road to it had already been unusual for the program.

The River Hawks from Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, have played in NCAA Division III since the school dropped the name Crusaders in 2016. The new name refers to the ospreys that nest along the Susquehanna River. In 2022 that defence carried them through an undefeated regular season and a 9-0 record in the Centennial Conference, which gave them the conference title.

The following year they moved to the Landmark Conference and won it straight away. That 2023 title was the first the conference awarded, and the team went 6-0 in league play to take it. They repeated the result in 2024, again 6-0. Conference fixtures against Catholic University and Christopher Newport now make up most of the schedule. Neither is a named rival, but each is a game the River Hawks have to win to hold the title.

Doug Arthur Stadium, seating 3,500, is also known as Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. Some graduates have continued in semi-professional football. Ben Damiani, for example, plays for the Lancaster Legends.

Susquehanna has made seven NCAA Division III playoff appearances, with nine wins and seven defeats in them.
