Tonota

Distance is the thing that keeps Tonota FC out of a rivalry. Mochudi Centre Chiefs sit roughly 356 kilometres away, too far for the town to have grown a grudge against anyone in particular, so the club has spent its life competing against the table rather than a neighbour.

That table finally turned in the club's favour in the 2025/2026 season, when Tonota FC won the First Division North and went up to the Botswana Premier League for the first time since the club existed. Getting there meant climbing back from a relegation out of that same division in 2011/2012, so the promotion closed a loop that had been open for more than a decade. Tlhalefang Kame, the club's Player of the Season, was named.

Tonota has no ground of its own big enough for senior football, so the club plays its home fixtures at Francistown Stadium, also known as Obed Itani Chilume Stadium, which holds 26,000. A smaller complex is going up in the town itself, though it has not taken over as the home venue yet.

Promotion did not end the run. In August 2026 the club won the first Tati River Cup, beating Township Rollers and Nkana FC along the way.

The club carries the nickname "Sepondo Sea Debola" and traces back to 2006, when Tonota, a town with no top-flight side to call its own, first put a football club together.
