Tortona

The Nova Arena, opened in 2025 inside the new Cittadella dello Sport complex, seats 5,000 for a club that spent most of its history in Casale Monferrato's PalaFerraris, a 3,510-seat hall named for Paolo Ferraris. The move gave Derthona Basket, known to supporters as Bertram Derthona Tortona and nicknamed the Lions, a new home.

That standing is recent. The club traces its playing roots to 1946, when Istrian and Dalmatian refugees settled in Tortona and brought the game with them; the formal club followed in 1955, was dissolved in 1962 and refounded in 1965. For decades it operated in Italy's lower tiers, and its early silverware reflects that: an LNP Cup in 2018 and an LNP Supercup in 2019, both second-tier honours. The breakthrough came in 2021, when Tortona beat Reale Mutua Torino 3–2 in the promotion playoffs to reach Lega Basket Serie A for the first time.

Once there, the club did not simply make up the numbers. In the 2021–22 season it reached the final of the Coppa Italia, losing to Olimpia Milano.

Tortona has since taken its ambitions abroad, entering the FIBA Basketball Champions League from 2023–24 and reaching the quarter-finals in 2025, alongside a place in the EuroCup. Locally, the fiercest fixture stays close to home: matches against Novipiù Casale Monferrato are billed as the derby della provincia, a reminder that the club's old home town is still just down the road from its new arena.
