The OSiR II sports hall on Blanowska Street holds 1,500 people, 702 of them in fixed seats, and it is where Viret Zawiercie have made their name without ever reaching the Superliga.

Leszek Łazarowicz put the club together in May 1994, gathering players from the handball section of MKS Warta Zawiercie after that section had folded three years earlier. The name Viret came from the sponsors of the day, VIG and Return, stitched into one word; when Virtu joined CMC Poland as a backer, the letters were added again and the club now plays as CMC Virtu Viret Zawiercie.

The cup run of 1999 and 2000 stands out — back-to-back wins in the Polish Cup of the Silesian Handball Association. Later, under Krzysztof Adamuszek, who had played for the club before he coached it, the team finished third in the I Liga three seasons running, from 2004/05 to 2006/07. Michał Adamuszek came through the same academy and went on to top the scoring charts in the Ekstraklasa for the Polish national side.
