Yevhen Makarenko

Makarenko began his career in the Dynamo Kyiv academy, working through the club's reserve side before establishing himself in the senior squad, where he stayed from 2010 to 2017, with a loan spell at Hoverla along the way. The move abroad came in 2017, when he joined Kortrijk in Belgium, a transfer that opened the door to a longer stretch in Western European football. A year later he signed for Anderlecht, before a loan took him back to Kortrijk. In 2021 he moved to Hungary's MOL Fehérvár, a left-footed player.

His move east came in 2023, when he joined Ordabasy in Kazakhstan. It proved the most decorated stop of his career: he won the Kazakhstan Premier League title with the club. After a brief spell at Andizhan in Uzbekistan, he returned to Kazakhstan in January 2026 to join Kyzyl-Zhar, where he now wears the number 8 shirt on a contract running to the end of that year.

Makarenko has also represented Ukraine at senior level, making his debut against the United States in March 2014. He went on to earn 15 caps between 2014 and 2021, a run that included appearances at Euro 2020 against Sweden and England. He had earlier played once for Ukraine's under-21 side.

Across his career, Makarenko has been credited with 10 goals and 24 assists, numbers built up over spells in Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The title with Ordabasy remains the clearest team success on his record, arriving well over a decade after he first broke through at Dynamo Kyiv.
