About the player
Joshua Bitter came through FC Schalke 04's academy, joining the Knappenschmiede in 2007 and staying until 2016. Two seasons with Schalke's reserve side followed before a move to Werder Bremen II, then a switch to MSV Duisburg in 2019 on a free transfer, where he made 45 appearances across two seasons.
A brief spell at Energie Cottbus in January 2022 lasted just two appearances before he returned to Duisburg that June, again on a free transfer. He has since made more than 66 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. That second spell brought his most significant honour: winning the Regionalliga West with Duisburg in 2025, a title that secured promotion to the 3. Liga.
Bitter's development was marked early by international recognition, with two caps and a goal for Germany's U19 side in 2015, the same year he won the U19 Bundesliga with Schalke, followed by two further caps at U20 level in 2016. He also won the Brandenburg regional cup during his short stint at Cottbus in the 2021/2022 season.
