About the player
Petar Vitanov has already won a Bulgarian Cup twice, with two different clubs. The first came with CSKA Sofia in 2015–16. The second came at Lokomotiv Plovdiv in 2019–20, and the Bulgarian Supercup followed in 2020.
His route into the professional game was not a straight one. He joined the CSKA Sofia youth system in 2002 and stayed until 2009. He then spent three years at Brooke House College before returning to the CSKA academy in 2012. His senior debut came in December 2013. He also played for CSKA Sofia II in the Second League in 2016–17, before leaving the club in June 2017 for Vereya.
Cherno More Varna signed him in January 2018, and in the summer of 2019 he moved to Lokomotiv Plovdiv. He stayed there until July 2023, and it was where the second Cup and the Supercup came.
That summer he left Bulgaria for the Chinese Super League and Tianjin Jinmen Tiger. He played 14 matches that year, 12 in the league and two in the Chinese FA Cup, without scoring. In February 2024 he moved to Belgium on a free transfer, joining Beveren. He made eight appearances in the Challenger Pro League that season, again without a goal, and left in August 2024.
On 26 September 2024 Vitanov signed for CSKA 1948 as a free agent. He is left-footed and plays in midfield.
