Sean McLoughlin

McLoughlin's first goal for Blackburn Rovers came on 14 August 2026 at Molineux. He headed in to make it 1-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the game finished 2-2. It arrived a year after he signed from Hull City on a two-year deal, for a reported fee of £500,000.

The left-footed centre-back, who is 191 cm tall, is from Cork. He came into senior football from University College Cork and joined Cork City in 2017. Over the next two seasons he made 48 league appearances and scored five goals. In 2018 he was named in the PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year.

Hull City signed him in July 2019 for an undisclosed fee. He did not settle straight into the first team. He spent the first months of that season on loan at St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, from July to December, and made 21 appearances there and scored once.

He then stayed at Hull until 2025 and played 129 league games for the club. Supporters chose him as Hull's Player of the Month twice, for December 2021 and for February 2023.

McLoughlin has played for the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level. In May 2023 he was called up to the senior squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, though he did not win a senior cap.

His header at Molineux was his first goal for the club.
