Sergey Varatynov

Sergey Varatynov played every minute of all 30 of Baltika's Russian Premier League matches in the 2025/26 season. He was never substituted, and the run earned him the nickname "Iron Man". It was also his first season in the top flight: his league debut had come on 18 July 2025 against Dynamo Moscow.

The route there was a steady one. Varatynov started out in the youth system at Torpedo Moscow and moved to the Lokomotiv Moscow academy. He also captained Russia at two youth levels, playing 13 times for the under-16s and six times for the under-17s. He had earlier won six caps at under-15 level.

His senior football began at Strogino in the Second Division, where he made 39 appearances across 2022 and 2023. In July 2023 he moved up to Khimki, playing 32 matches there. Khimki won the First League in 2023/24, and Varatynov was part of that side.

He joined Baltika in Kaliningrad on 12 September 2024. The club won the First League the following season, so he collected a second title in that division in two years. He has since played 69 matches for Baltika in all competitions and scored four goals, a fair return for a right-footed centre-back.

Baltika's unbroken run through the 30 Premier League matches of 2025/26 owes much to his availability. He was on the pitch for every minute of the league season.
