About the player
Kyzyl-Zhar's goalkeeper spot has belonged to Vadim Petrov since he came through the club's own academy, progressing via the Football Center before joining the first team in January 2019. He has never played senior football anywhere else.
By early 2024 he had made around 29 appearances for the first team, keeping eight clean sheets, and the club extended his contract through to the end of 2027. That run through the ranks included a First League title in 2019, when Kyzyl-Zhar won the second division and earned promotion to the Premier League.
Petrov's clearest moment of recognition came in September 2024, when he saved two penalties against Astana in the Kazakhstan Championship. The performance drew praise from coach Ali Aliev and put Petrov's name forward for the senior national team. He has already featured for Kazakhstan's under-21 side.
