Brito

In May 2022 a club with 700 seats and no ground of its own website went out and won a national title. The Campeonato da Série B da Divisão Pro-Nacional put Brito Sport Clube into the Campeonato de Portugal, the fourth tier, a level the parish side had reached once before, in 2020, only to drop back down. That same season the club also lifted the Taça A.F. Braga, its first district cup in a quarter of a century, since 1996/97.

Brito plays out of the parish of Brito, inside the municipality of Guimarães, sharing that ground with the shadow of Vitória SC a few kilometres away — no fixture between the two is remembered as a derby, and Brito's own football has stayed a district affair for most of its life. Founded in 1956, the club spent decades working through the Associação de Futebol de Braga pyramid: up from the third division in 1995/96, the second in 1993/94, and twice to the top of the district's first division, in 2003/04 and again in 2011/12.

The Parque de Jogos do Brito SC opened in 1994 on a new site, after the club had played for years on an earlier pitch at Lugar do Alto. It holds seating for a few hundred, not a few thousand, in keeping with a club that has never fielded a Portugal international or sent a player through Benfica, Porto or Sporting.

The 2022/23 squad that carried the Pro-Nacional form into the Campeonato de Portugal included the defender Diogo Bebé, who later moved on to Italian amateur football with Gioiese and Nuova Sondrio Calcio, alongside Park-Jin-Moo, Ruizinho and Polo Vieira. For a club built on black and white and district silverware, staying up at that national level is the task in front of it now.
