Dhaka Wanderers

Local youth in the Kalta Bazar quarter put the club together in 1937, and it started life under a different name entirely — the Dhaka Muslim Wanderers Club, formed by Muslim residents of the area with Yar Mohammed as its first president and Abdullah Hai as secretary. Two years later, under the influence of Dhaka's Nawab family, the name was cut down to Dhaka Wanderers. That same year they won the Second Division and stepped up to the top flight in 1940.

What followed was a decade in which Wanderers ran East Pakistani football. Between 1950 and 1960 they took the Dhaka First Division League seven times, including a 1955 title awarded after floods forced the league to be abandoned with them still top, and a 1956 title handed to them when Mohammedan SC refused to play a deciding match. They also carried off the Independence Day Football Tournament four times. Bahram, their forward, top-scored the club through the 1953 campaign, and it was Manzur Hasan Mintu who captained the side that closed out the decade in 1960.

In 1965 the run of history nearly went up in smoke, literally: local residents set fire to a tent near Baitul Mukarram Mosque where the club had been keeping its trophies and records, and most of it was lost. Independence in 1971 marked the end of the dominant years — a joint runners-up finish in 1973, shared with Dhaka Mohammedan and Dhaka Abahani, was as close as they came to the old standard, and the closest they have got since was a losing final in the 1987 Federation Cup, beaten by Mohammedan SC.

A casino scandal forced the club into reformation between 2019 and 2023, and the rebuild has not yet returned them to where they once stood: relegated out of the Bangladesh Premier League after the 2024–25 season, Dhaka Wanderers now play their football in the Bangladesh Championship League.
