Leylam Football Club was a successful amateur and semi-professional team in Cebu. In 2021 the Philippines Football League (PFL) had room for a new member, and Leylam's successor was licensed on 31 July that year to fill it. It entered that season as Cebu F.C.
The nickname, The Gentle Giants, comes from the crest, which shows a whale shark from Oslob in red, white, grey and black. The home shirt is red and the away shirt white.
The home ground, the Dynamic Herb Sports Complex in Talisay, holds 550 seats. Some PFL and Copa Paulino Alcantara fixtures are played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila instead, so a club from the Visayas regularly plays its league games in the capital.
Cebu finished as league runners-up in 2022–23, and again in 2024. The Philippines Football League Finals Series in 2024–25 brought the silverware that those two seasons had not, and it was the club's first trophy.
The continental record came in smaller steps. In the AFC Cup in 2023–24 Cebu beat Shan United of Myanmar 1–0, its first win in Asian competition. The following season, in its debut in the AFC Champions League Two, the club drew 2–2 with Muangthong United of Thailand. In 2025 it beat Kasuka of Brunei 4–2 on aggregate to win the ASEAN Club Championship qualifying play-off.
The club has changed its name and stadium, but its beginnings are still in Leylam, the Cebu amateur team it replaced.
