Erbaa sits in Tokat province, and for decades the town's football side gave it little to shout about. Founded in 1947, Erbaaspor spent much of its history sliding rather than climbing: relegation from the 3. Lig after the 1995-96 season pushed the club into the amateur ranks, and a further drop after 2010-11 left it playing in the Tokat provincial amateur league, about as far from professional football as a club from a district this size can fall.

The recovery started in 2015-16, when Erbaaspor won its group in the Bölgesel Amatör Lig and climbed back into the 3. Lig. The bigger leap came in 2023-24, when the club beat Muş 1984 Muşspor on penalties in the TFF 3. Lig play-off final to reach the TFF 2. Lig for the first time in its history. İbrahim Kaya was one of the players who drove that run before moving on to Alanyaspor afterwards.

The town's support for the club now plays out at the Erbaa Yeni İlçe Stadyumu, a 6,000-capacity ground that replaced the old 3,000-seat İlçe Stadyumu. Fans and local media know the team as the Mavi-Beyazlılar, after the blue and white it wears.

None of that promotion history means as much locally as the fixtures against Tokatspor and Tokat Belediye Plevnespor, the province's other clubs. Games between them are known collectively as the Tokat Derbisi, and beating the neighbours still carries its own weight.
