Local rivalry in Presidente Prudente has been complicated by its own name. The club that carries the name today grew out of Oeste Paulista Esporte Clube, founded on 1 December 2005 by former player Adriano Jerlin, and only became Grêmio Desportivo Prudente in 2012. In the city itself, the club's derby runs against Presidente Prudente FC, with matches against Osvaldo Cruz, from the neighbouring town, adding a second, smaller edge.

The nickname has shifted too. Early sides wore orange and were known as Laranja Mecânica, the Mechanical Orange. Red and blue replaced orange as the club's colours.

Two years later, Grêmio Prudente went further in the third tier, the Série A3, finishing runners-up to Votuporanguense. Among the players who passed through, Vitinho came up through the youth ranks before moving on to Bahia in 2023.

Home games are played at the Estádio Paulo Constantino , known locally as Prudentão, which holds 45,954.
