The closest Les Gwada Boys have come to a continental prize is 2007, when they reached the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup: a 2-1 win over Honduras in the quarter-finals sent them through before Mexico shut the run down 1-0. Third-place finishes in that competition came in 1989, 1994 and 2008.
None of that fits the usual shape of international football, because Guadeloupe is not a FIFA member. The team operates through the Ligue guadeloupéenne de football, an associate member of CONCACAF since 1964 and a full member since 2013, which is also why a Guadeloupean player can turn out for France instead without any conflict of eligibility. Several have taken that route to the top level: Daniel Congré and Michaël Ciani both built careers in Ligue 1 before playing for Guadeloupe, and Claudio Beauvue moved on to Celta Vigo.
Jocelyn Angloma, who won a World Cup with France in 1998, has managed the side since December 2017.
Games against Martinique carry their own name, the Derby des Antilles, the closest thing the team has to a settled rivalry. Home fixtures are played in front of 7,500 at the Stade René Serge Nabajoth in Les Abymes, and the current squad still has the Gold Cup and Caribbean Cup as the tournaments where a run deep into the knockout rounds is the realistic ambition.
