Avenir Sportif de Kasserine took shape in 1948, and its supporters know it as Les Frachiches, a name borrowed from the Frachiches tribal confederation that has long populated the area.

The club's best years came late in the 1980s and into the 1990s. Kasserine won the Division d'Honneur, the old name for Ligue 2, in the 1986–87 season and rode that title into Ligue 1 for the first time in its history. They held their own in the top flight for three seasons before relegation sent them back down in 1990. Another second-tier championship in 1991–92 earned an immediate return to Ligue 1, though this stay lasted only a single season.

Since then, promotion has come in shorter bursts rather than sustained spells at the top.

Wajdi Bouazzi remains the name Kasserine points to first. In 2019 he returned to Kasserine, not as a player but as coach, taking charge of the club that had trained him.

A domestic trophy has never followed the club home.
