Oleksandrija is a town of the Kirovohrad steppe, and the football club that carries its name began inside a workplace — the local printing equipment plant, which put its team on the books in March 1990 under the name Polihraftekhnika.

The plant's money ran out and the club had to be re-established in 2004. The crest acquired the year 1948 — the date of Shakhtar Oleksandriya, the side the club treats as its ancestor.

Promotion came twice through the Persha Liha, in 2011 and 2015, both under Volodymyr Sharan, who took the club to third in the Premier League in 2018–19. The club's only European win remains a qualifying tie against Astra Giurgiu in 2017, settled 1–0 on aggregate.

Ruslan Rotan took over in 2023 and left in 2024; the season that followed brought second place in the Premier League, the highest the club has finished. CSC Nika holds 7,000.

Roman Yaremchuk passed through on loan and scored after seven seconds, the fastest goal the league has recorded. Andriy Zaporozhan wore the armband from 2008 to 2020.

The derby is with Zirka Kropyvnytskyi, the other club of the oblast.

The printing plant no longer has a football team.
