About

The Ukrainian Cup serves as the primary national knockout football tournament in Ukraine, organized by the Ukrainian Association of Football. Established in 1992 following the nation's independence, it stands as the premier professional knockout tournament, distinct from the amateur competition founded in 1996. The event sits at the top of the national cup hierarchy, offering a standalone knockout structure without promotion or relegation. Its principal prize is qualification for the UEFA Europa League.

The format has undergone significant evolution over the decades. Historically, the competition featured two-legged ties, but recent seasons—including 2023–24 and 2024–25—utilize a single-match knockout format for all rounds from the Round of 32 through to the Final. In the event of a draw during these matches, proceedings go directly to a penalty shootout without extra time. The 2024–25 season involved 69 teams, comprising clubs from the Ukrainian Premier League, First League, Second League, amateur clubs, and regional associations. Top-tier clubs entering European competitions often skip the earliest rounds.

Dominance in the competition belongs to two clubs: Shakhtar Donetsk, with 15 titles, and Dynamo Kyiv, with 14. Shakhtar Donetsk remains the current holder after defeating Dynamo Kyiv in the 2024–25 final. Other winners include Chornomorets Odesa with two titles, while Vorskla Poltava and Tavriya Simferopol each hold one. Notable reforms include the 1996 discontinuation of regional qualifiers and the brief existence of a separate Second League Cup between 1999 and 2001. The competition also saw sponsorship naming rights, such as the 'Datagroup Cup' in 2008.
