About

The Druha Liga operates as the third tier of Ukrainian football, sitting directly below the Premier League and the First League. Founded in 1992, the competition initially ran under the name "Transitional League" before adopting its current title for the 1992–93 season. Since the dissolution of the Third League in 1996, it has served as the lowest level of professional football in the country.

Teams are split into two groups, Group A and Group B, each containing eleven sides for the current campaign. The regular season uses a double round-robin format within each division. The top finishers in both groups secure direct promotion to the First League. Additionally, the two group winners contest a single match on neutral ground to decide the official league champion, a result that does not influence promotion status. Teams placed third and fourth enter play-offs against the thirteenth and fourteenth-placed sides from the First League, playing two-legged ties for the final promotion spots.

Unlike other tiers, the Druha Liga has a distinct character regarding reserve teams. It functions as the primary competition for second squads from Premier League and First League clubs. These reserve sides participate in the league but are ineligible for promotion. This arrangement differentiates the competition from the First League, where such structures differ. Relegation to a lower professional division does not exist; instead, clubs at the bottom of the table typically lose their professional status and drop to regional amateur competitions or the Ukrainian Amateur Football Championship.

FC Desna Chernihiv holds the record for the most titles, having won the championship three times during its history. The current champion for the 2025–2026 season is FC Kulykiv-Bilka. The league has historically operated without a title sponsorship name integrated into its official designation.
