Vinnytsia's football club is on its second life. It stopped in 2012, when the money ran out, and came back in 2016 with Denys Kolchin taking the revived side through its first two seasons. Artur Zagorulko now runs the club as president while still turning out as a player.

The club began as Lokomotyv, set up in 1958 at the instigation of Petro Kryvonos, who ran the Southwestern Railway, and it played its first match that April. The railway name went, the green and white did not.

The high ground came in the 1990s. Yefim Shkolnikov, who had already delivered a Ukrainian SSR title in 1984, took the club up as First League champions in 1992–93. Three years later Nyva reached the Ukrainian Cup final and lost it to Dynamo Kyiv — Volodymyr Tsytkin kept goal through that run, and returned as coach a quarter of a century later. The final still bought a European tie: the Cup Winners' Cup of 1996–97, out in the first round to Sion.

Everyday football happens at the Sports Complex Nyva, 3,282 seats, with the Central City Stadium opened up for the bigger nights. That ground was rebuilt in 1980 and holds 24,000.

The fixture that carries the most weight is the Podillia Derby against Podillya Khmelnytskyi. In 2009 it spilled over into violence between the two sets of ultras.

One trophy has come since the 1990s: the League Cup in 2009–10, under Oleh Fedorchuk, who took the side up the same season.
