The clubs that matter to Zhytomyr have shifted with the leagues Polissya has been in. For decades the reference points were regional: a Ukrainian SSR championship won in 1967, a runners-up finish twice in the 1970s, and two Ukrainian SSR Cups, the second of them in 1990, on the edge of the country the club had spent its life competing in. Then the opponents changed entirely. Since promotion the fixture list has been Dynamo, Shakhtar, Dnipro — and in the 2025/26 season Polissya finished third among them.

The gap in between is the part worth explaining. The version that returned in 2016 inherited the name, the colours and the record book, and the First League title in 2022/23, then the top flight, and now European nights in the UEFA Conference League.

Green and white are the registered colours — white shirt, green shorts and socks — though the club has reached back further than that. For the third kit in 2026/27 it went to yellow and black, described in its own announcements as the traditional pairing, a choice.

The founding date is 1959, and the honours from that era sit in the same cabinet as the ones won by a side assembled six decades later.

What has not changed is where they play.
