Izhevsk had two football grounds under the same name before this one: a wooden Zenit stadium that opened in July 1933 and was later pulled down to make way for something permanent. What stands on Sovetskaya Street now dates from 1968.

The name has moved with the club more than once. When Gazovik-Gazprom took over the tenancy in 1997, the ground was renamed the Central Republican Stadium Gazprom-Gazovik to match; later it reverted to Zenit. The current tenant, FC Izhevsk, traces its own lineage through that same run of renamed clubs — Zenit-Izhevsk, SOYUZ-Gazprom Izhevsk, Gazovik-Gazprom — so the stadium's changing signage has largely tracked the team's changing identity rather than any change of address.

A 2006 renovation brought plastic seating and updated infrastructure, holding capacity at 18,000. The playing surface has moved with the times too: natural turf through the reconstruction years, then artificial in 2019. Ownership sits with the regional government rather than the club, which is why there is no dedicated stadium website — anyone looking for fixtures or access goes through FC Izhevsk's own site instead.
