The Eagles held on to beat the Black Bears 22-16 in NFL regular-season action on Saturday evening. It was a game that looked balanced on paper, but the scoreline told a different story. The hosts had been inconsistent of late, while the visitors carried a losing streak that would have worried anyone watching from the stands.
The Eagles came out with purpose, building a lead that never quite felt secure. The Black Bears answered back, and for stretches you could see where this might go either way. To be fair, neither side gave much away, but the margin kept narrowing as the clock ticked down.
By the time the final whistle sounded, the Eagles had done enough. They had nothing to do all evening in terms of running away with it, but they closed the game out when it mattered. The visitors fought back from behind twice and kept them in it, but could not find an answer when things came to a head.
Looking at the form ahead of this match, the Eagles had won 28-21 against the Scarlet Knights and lost 15-34 to the Birkeits. The Black Bears had dropped 14-23 to the Warriors, lost 3-55 to the Mountainers, and picked up a 21-18 win over the Tigers. This result breaks a run for one side and extends it for the other.
And here's the thing — the Eagles now sit with momentum, but one win does not make a season. They cannot afford another slip if they want to be taken seriously. The Black Bears will look at that narrow margin and know they were not far off, but the points on the board are what count.
