About the player
Cáqueza is a small municipality in Cundinamarca, and it is where Daniel Torres was born before making his way through Independiente Santa Fe's ranks to a senior debut in 2008. He stayed with the club until 2011, picking up the Copa Colombia along the way. Back at Santa Fe from 2012, he grew into a key player and eventually captain, part of the sides that won the Categoría Primera A in 2012-I and 2014-II and the Superliga Colombiana in 2013 and 2015.
A move to Independiente Medellín in 2015 preceded the step that defined the next stretch of his career: in July 2016 he signed for Deportivo Alavés in a transfer reported at around €3.18 million. A second spell at Albacete followed in 2021, then a stint at Castellón through 2022.
Torres returned to Colombia in 2023 with Independiente Medellín before going back to Santa Fe, the club where it all started, in 2024. In 2025, Santa Fe won the Categoría Primera A title in the Torneo Apertura, beating Medellín 2–1 in the final.
Internationally, Torres made his Colombia debut in November 2015 and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2016 Copa América Centenario, part of a run that has brought him 14 caps for the national side.
