About the player
Irving Martínez grew up in the goalkeeping ranks at León, joining the club's youth system in 2017 at the age of 13. He worked his way through the academy, appearing for the under-18 side in the 2022/2023 season before stepping up to León's under-23 squad in July 2023.
The clearest mark on his career so far is not a match but a night in September 2021, when he was shot during an armed robbery at his home and survived. He continued in the León academy afterwards, and by the 2024/2025 season was a regular for the under-23 team in Liga MX, appearing in 12 matches.
For the 2026 season, León have included him in the senior squad for both Liga MX and the Leagues Cup, though he has yet to make his first-team debut in the top division. He has not been called up to the Mexican national team at any level.
