About the player
Marcelo Benevenuto arrived at Sport Recife in a way that made his debut hard to forget: he scored on his first appearance for the club. The move itself came together only after his contract at Fortaleza was mutually terminated at the end of January 2026, following a season in which he had fallen out of the coach's plans and spent time out on loan.
Benevenuto came through the youth ranks at Resende and Fluminense before Botafogo took him on loan in early 2016 and made the deal permanent that June. He made his senior debut that September and went on to make 142 appearances over nearly five years at the club, winning the Campeonato Carioca in 2018. He was named to the Carioca Team of the Year in 2020.
Loan spells followed at Coritiba in 2024 and Criciúma in 2025.
He has not been capped by the senior Brazil national team. At Sport Recife, he has signed through the end of 2026.
