«Bengals»
Three times the Bengals have reached the AFC Championship and won it, in 1981, 1988 and again in 2021, and three times that has carried them only as far as a Super Bowl they then lost. San Francisco beat them in Super Bowl XVI and again in Super Bowl XXIII; the Los Angeles Rams beat them in Super Bowl LVI. No NFL title has ever followed.
Paul Brown put the ownership group together in Cincinnati in 1967, brought the club into the American Football League, and coached it himself through to 1975. He chose the team's shade of orange to match the Cleveland Browns, then added black so the two would not be mistaken for one another. When he died in 1991, control passed to his son Mike Brown, who took full ownership in 2011.
The stadium downtown opened in 2000 as Paul Brown Stadium, known to supporters as the Jungle, and took the Paycor name in 2022 under a new sponsorship deal; before that the club had played at Riverfront and, for its first two seasons, at Nippert.
Anthony Muñoz went into the Hall of Fame in 1998, the offensive tackle.
