Eastern New Mexico plays its football in the Lone Star Conference at the Division II level.
The university in Portales took up football in 1933, and the Greyhounds name has stuck with it since, tied to the school mascot rather than to any local trade or landmark. Red and white have remained the club's colours through that stretch.
Home games are played at what was known for decades as Greyhound Stadium before the Steve Loy Family Foundation renamed it in 2024. It holds 6,100, though for much of its history the ground was listed at a smaller 5,200.
For a programme with this record of conference titles, the standard each season is not survival in Division II but another run at the Lone Star Conference crown.
