«Seahawks»
Seattle had to wait for its team. The National Football League (NFL) awarded the city its 28th franchise on 4 June 1974, but the Seahawks did not play a game until 1976, when they entered as an expansion side. It won that division in 1988 and again in 1999, and those two titles were the extent of its success in those years.
The turn came in the 2000s, after the club moved to the NFC West. In 2005 it reached the Super Bowl for the first time, and lost it.
The 2010s brought the defence that gave the team its best-known nickname, the Legion of Boom . That group carried Seattle to the 2013 season and Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43–8, still the club's only Super Bowl victory that is beyond dispute.
The crowd at Lumen Field, which holds 68,740 for NFL games, is counted as a player in its own right. Supporters are the "12th Man", the twelfth player on a field where each side has eleven, and the noise they make is a deliberate part of the home game plan. Visiting offences have to work through it.
The rivalries come from the division.
